Booking, Check-In/Check-Out, Cancellation Policies, Terms and Conditions
We will do everything possible to make your stay most enjoyable! To ensure you will have a very pleasant experience, we have established the following policies. Please take a few minutes to review these policies, and feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
Booking, Rates & Cancellation Policies
It is the responsibility of our guests at the time of booking to consider these policies. Please be sure of your dates and travel plans before you book your stay with us. Once we have committed to hold a room for you, we will turn subsequent inquiries away. Due to the intimate size of our establishment, any cancellations greatly affect us. We appreciate your understanding of our policies as explained below.
Payments: All reservations must be secured with a valid credit card. We accept MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover credit cards.
Reservation Deposit: A 50% deposit will be charged to your credit card at the time of booking. The remaining balance is due in full upon check-in.
Cancellations & Deposit Refunds: All cancellations will incur a minimum 10% re-booking fee. If a cancellation is made in less than fourteen (14) calendar days, and we are able to re-book the room, the partial refund, less the 10% re-booking fee, will be extended. However, if a cancellation is made in less than fourteen (14) calendar days, and we are unable to re-book the room, the full 50% deposit will be forfeited and not refunded.
Because we are a small establishment with just 3 rooms to rent, we must require that guests be responsible for payment of all nights reserved with a confirmed reservation. Since most of our reservations are made 6 to 8 weeks in advance of arrival, changes or cancellations require 14 days notice for the guest to be released of such responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, personal and family illnesses, accidents and also includes failure to obtain air or ground transportation, regardless of the cause of the failure. However, if a cancellation is requested less than 14 days in advance of the arrival date, a refund of deposit may still be made, but ONLY if we are able to successfully re-book the reserved room(s) to another guest. In all cases of cancellation, a $50 processing fee will be charged. For these reasons, we highly recommend that you contact your travel agent or credit card company regarding trip cancellation insurance to cover refund of accommodations costs in case of unforeseen changes to your plans. Please remember, we are making a commitment to you and you are making one to us.
Late Arrivals & Early Departures: While we sympathize with unforeseen circumstances, guests are responsible for payment of all nights reserved regardless of their actual arrival or departure date. If you change your reservation to reduce the number of nights or move them to a different date, we reserve the right to charge your credit card for the nights you had originally reserved if you are within fourteen days of arrival.
No-Shows: A no show that does not cancel will be charged for the entire stay for all rooms that were booked and forfeit any and all deposits. These funds may not be used as a “balance” to reschedule at a later date.
Late Bookings: Bookings made within 24 hours of stay must be made by phone or in person. Otherwise, we encourage you to make your reservation online.
Room Rates: Rates are quoted per night excluding applicable room taxes.
Check-In & Check-Out
Credit Card and ID: A valid credit card and photo ID are required upon check-in.
Check-in time: is 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. We will, however, be happy to check you in early if the room is ready. You are also welcome to leave your baggage with us if you arrive early and the room is still being cleaned or occupied.
Late Check-ins: Just as you would expect your room to be ready at check-in time, we are counting on you to arrive as close to the specified time as possible. Please e-mail or call us to let us know if your scheduled arrival time has changed. Late arrivals can pick up their keys at the Rowley Inn across the street, located at 1104 Rowley Avenue.
Check-out time: For those staying in the A Christmas Story House, you must be out of the public portion of the house by 9:00 AM. You can continue to enjoy the loft area until 11:00 AM. Late check-out may be available if there is no reservation for your room that evening. If you have a late flight to catch and would like to explore the city one last time before your flight, you are also welcome to leave your baggage with us for the day until 5:00 PM. Please rememeber to leave your room key with us prior to departing.
Lost Key: Please rememer to return your key. The lost/not returned key fee is $25.00.
Rates/Policies: Rates and policies are subject to change at any time and vary during high impact periods and special events.
Right to Refuse Service: Our establishment is privately owned and operated. Management reserves the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason.
Use of Public Space: When renting A Christmas Story House, you will have use of the public space outside of the loft from one hour after close until 9:00 AM the next morning. Guest must vacate the public space and remove any personal items each morning by 9:00 AM so that the staff may prepare for daily tours. (*Extended hours—if booking on or near a holiday, check with the gift shop @ 216-298-4919 for times for use of public space.)
Included Admission: Included admission is only for overnight guests. Actually physical tickets will not be provided. Overnight guests simply need to inform a staff member when they wish to take the tour.
Visitor Policy: Rates are only for the number of guests that can sleep in the beds provided. No additional guests are allowed on property at any time without prior approval. No sleeping bags, air mattresses or cots can be brought into the rooms. Violation will result in a $200 fee per additional guest per occurrence.
Pets and Animals: We love pets, but regret that we are not able to permit pets of any kind, as some guests may be allergic to them. Guests bringing pets into the rooms will be asked to leave immediately and be charged a minimum $200 fee to return any room to a pet free status. Please note we will require appropriate documentation for all service animals.
Smoking & Candle Burning: There is no smoking (this includes vaping or any other form of tobacco) allowed anywhere on the property. For the safety and comfort of all our guests, we do not allow smoking or incense/candle burning in any of our guest rooms, porches or on any of the grounds. If there is any evidence of smoke detected in your room or any part of the property, you will be asked to leave immediately and be charged a minimum $200 fee to return any room to a non-smoking status.
Damages and Missing Items: Any damages, stains, missing items, or broken items occurring during the stay will be the full financial responsibility of the guest, including anyone traveling with the guest. Any special clean-up resulting from damages caused by the guests will be charged to the credit card on file. Charges may need to be applied after guest departure as deemed necessary by the management. Please report all spills and/or damages to management promptly.
Items Left Behind: If you leave something behind, please contact us and we will be happy to ship it back to you at a cost plus a $10 handling fee.
Parking: Parking is provided in either of our two parking lots
Security Cameras: Please be aware that there are cameras for security purposes only in various locations of the touring portion of the house. There are NO cameras in the loft space of A Christmas Story House nor inside The Bumpus House.
